About me

Hi there! Thank you for taking an interest in my page! My name is Sjoerd Ramaker, an Industrial Designer from the Netherlands, where I studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Technical University of Delft. I graduated from the master programme Integrated Product Design with my Plateau project, and since then I’ve gone on to work on a bunch of other design projects.

I see design as a profession like no other. Creative problemsolving can be applied to so many subjects, after studying design you can still be anything you want when you grow up. Designers are no doctors, yet we’ll gladly get to know them to take on an O.R. effeciency project. We are no botanists, but we’ll learn exactly what we need to know to use live plants as a new design material. Take a designer, give them any problem, and they’ll do what’s needed to return a solution (preferably one that looks, feels, handles or performs incredibly).

Outside of working as an industrial designer, I like to spend as much free time as I can working on perfecting my bonsai collection. Trying to list the similarities between the design of products and the design of bonsai would be tedious, as there are so many, but there are definitely some standout lessons that have carried over for me. I think the most important lesson I’ve learned is that a project is never finished. The appearance will reach a ‘finished’ state every couple of years, and in that instant it may be glorious, but it will just keep growing and changing, requiring more work, more patience, and more creativity to keep pushing it forward.

I could probably find similarities between design and anything else I love, but I won’t bore you with my insights about solving Rubik’s-type puzzles, reading sci-fi novels, traveling Asia or making wall art, I’m sure they’ll come up in conversation at some point.

I hope you enjoy browsing through my projects, both products and trees, and please don’t hesitate to reach out for any inquiries or questions you may have!
